It was a blast to spend time with the Arkestra. They are national treasures. We shot at AS220's Foo Fest, The Hilarious Attic, and the Sun Ra House. I learned pieces of trivia, too - Sun Ra ghost wrote the theme to Batman and Art Jenkins was given his nickname "Artsmart" by Deval Patrick's father, who played in the Arkestra (Deval Patrick is the current Governer of Massachussetts and Obama confidante). I wish I could have had more of the Arkestra and Brian Gibson interviews in the video - but we were on a strict 7 minute limit so I took the Arkestra's lead and made the video acording to the "vibrations of the day". This was made with XLR8R TV and premiered September 22 - The Fall Equinox.
This music video was made with longtime fellow travelers Tom Hohlman and Colin Langenus (The U$A Is A Monster) and artist Kevin Hooyman. We shot in Kevin's Barn in Climax, NY on a rainy day. Then, Kevin painted over 150 images for it. It premiered on Pitchfork.com and has played in real world venues around the country, including the Floating World Animation Festival in Portland, Oregon, Germantown Community Farm in Germantown, NY, and the Baltimore Museum of Art as part of Whartscape. It was supported in part by a grant from RISCA.
